Join SYRCL in celebrating the grand opening of the newly updated Loney Meadow Interpretive Trail. The celebration will be on the morning of Monday, November 2.

The 1.5-mile loop trail, located off of Bowman Lake Road, now has new and improved interpretive signs. Visitors to the trail will learn about the ecology and history of the area, with a focus on the importance of mountain meadows.

SYRCL would like to thank our project partners. Sign content was developed in collaboration with the Tahoe National Forest. Local artist Jennifer Rain Crosby contributed original artwork. The signs were designed by Tallac Applied Ecology & Design.

Funding for this project was provided by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, an agency of the State of California.

Grand Opening Schedule, November 2, 2015:

8:30 am – Meet at the SYRCL office for car-pooling

OR

9:45 am – Meet at Loney Meadow turn-off on Bowman Lake Rd (see directions below). We will fit into high-clearance vehicles here for the quick (and rough) trip to the trailhead.

10 am – Gathering, introductions, remarks (at Loney Meadow trailhead)

10:30 am – 12 pm – Walk the trail, enjoy the new signs

12 pm – Travel back to SYRCL office / Nevada City

Directions to the Loney Meadow turn-off on Bowman Lake Road:

From Nevada City/ Grass Valley (allow about 1 hour of travel time):

• Take Highway 20 East from Nevada City about 30 miles.
• Just after the highway passes through Bear Meadow, turn left onto Bowman Lake Road (also US Forest Rte. 18).
• Travel about 10.5 miles along Bowman Lake Road until just after the paving ends.
• Look for a sign on the right indicating the turn-off to Loney Meadows.

From Interstate 80:

• Take exit 161 for Highway 20 West.
• Travel about 3.8 miles on Highway 20. Bowman Lake Road (Forest Rte. 18) will be on the right
• Travel about 10.5 miles along Bowman Lake Road until just after the paving ends.
• Look for a sign on the right indicating the turn-off to Loney Meadows.
