Help Us Inspire a New Generation to Stand up for the Yuba

Help Us Inspire a New Generation to Stand up for the Yuba

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL). To build on our legacy of safeguarding the Yuba Watershed, we must look to the next 40 years to ensure a new generation will care about our rivers, forests, and meadows and stand up to new threats when arise.

SYRCL is preparing for the future by investing in our outreach and education programs, especially in our new Education Department. We are absolutely committed to inspiring the next generation of watershed stewards and advocates.

You can be part of this effort by making a special gift to our Education & Outreach Fund.

SYRCL’s River Ambassador Season Continues – Looking for More Volunteers

Now that the Summer Solstice has passed and the temperatures are on the rise, volunteer River Ambassadors are more important than ever. Since Memorial Day, the program has targeted Highway 49 and Bridgeport, as those two crossings see some of the greatest visitation on the weekends. Moving forward, we’d like to be able to have River Ambassadors stationed at Purdon Crossing for the rest of the summer as well.

SYRCL’s River Ambassadors: What We Learned Over Memorial Weekend 2023

Memorial Day weekend is traditionally the start of the “river season” in Nevada County, where locals and out-of-towners alike descend upon the Yuba River in droves, looking to cool down and enjoy the unparalleled beauty of area. For this reason, Memorial Day weekend is also the start of the South Yuba River Citizens League and California State Park’s River Ambassadors Program. Now that the Yuba is “Instagram-famous”, the number of individuals who are coming to the river to recreate has risen exponentially. With the river so high, fast, and cold this year, the River Ambassador program has become all the more important as they educate newcomers and remind return visitors about river safety and etiquette.
