Join us on a Salmon Expedition
SYRCL’s Salmon Expeditions are an amazing opportunity for you, your family, or your child’s school to adventure down the Yuba River to see spawning salmon! We work with amazing volunteers, local river rafting guides from H2O Adventures, and scientists from the University of California to offer the community several different options to get its hands (and feet) wet while learning about the salmon life cycle, their ecology, and human impact on these incredible fish. We hope you’ll join us out on the river.
School Float Expeditions
Are you a teacher or parent with kids you’d like to get outdoors? Each year, throughout October and November, we partner with local educators to bring school groups out on the river for an amazing environmental science field trip.
Bookended by pre- and post-trip classroom visits, this educational and fun day on a raft includes learning about the Yuba River ecosystem, how mining has impacted the river, SYRCL’s work to protect salmon, viewing one of SYRCL’s major restoration projects at Hammon Bar, and hiking the Yuba Goldfields.
We also have a Virtual Option available.
Have you always wanted to know more about salmon spawning on the Yuba River? Join SYRCL River Science staff and the river guides at H20 Adventures on a float trip down the lower Yuba to see spawning salmon.
Open to all ages, this educational and fun day on a raft mirrors the experience of the school float expeditions and includes learning about the Yuba River ecosystem, how mining has impacted the river, SYRCL’s work to protect salmon, viewing one of SYRCL’s major restoration projects at Hammon Bar, and hiking the Yuba Goldfields.
In Partnership with the University of California’s Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center, join SYRCL River Science staff for a hiking expedition of lower Yuba Salmon Habitat. This expedition is an excellent way to view salmon spawning habitat without a boat!
