Help Us Inspire a New Generation to Stand up for the Yuba

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL). To build on our legacy of safeguarding the Yuba Watershed, we must look to the next 40 years to ensure a new generation will care about our rivers, forests, and meadows and stand up to new threats when arise.

That’s why I’m asking for your support. SYRCL is preparing for the future by investing in our outreach and education programs, especially in our new Education Department. We are absolutely committed to inspiring the next generation of watershed stewards and advocates.

You can be part of this effort by making a special gift to our Education & Outreach FundYour contribution will help programs like:

  • The Environmentalist of the Year College Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a high school senior dedicated to environmental stewardship and natural resource protection.
  • Salmon Expeditions which teach more than 1,400 students of all ages about the salmon life cycle and river ecology while rafting the lower Yuba.
  • The River Ambassador Program, which educates State Parks visitors about river safety and stewardship. More people are discovering the Yuba – and we need them to become Yuba champions.

This investment in our future community is crucial because, unfortunately, climate change, irresponsible projects, and environmental rollbacks continue to affect our watershed.

In May, for example, in the case of Sackett v. EPA, the Supreme Court issued a major blow to the Clean Water Act’s protections for many of the waterways in the United States. SYRCL is still analyzing how this will impact the Yuba.

Also, this coming October, the proposal to re-open the Idaho-Maryland Mine goes before the Nevada County Board of Supervisors. We’re preparing for this fall meeting with our allies and watch-dogging how the mine proponents will justify why a toxic mine should operate near the sensitive waterways surrounding Grass Valley.

These threats today will have a lasting impact on future generations of Yuba lovers. We need our supporters to be ready to take action now and into the future

Please support our efforts to protect our watershed while educating and inspiring the next generation of river stewards and advocates.

Your special gift today will help our new Education Department and the outreach and education programs that involve our youth, families, and community members in our work to protect and restore the Yuba watershed.

For the Yuba,

Aaron Zettler-Mann
Interim Executive Director

P.S. People power is the heart of SYRCL’s 40-year history from winning state Wild & Scenic protections for the South Yuba, to tracking water quality throughout the watershed, to creating landscape-level projects that contribute to our local economy while restoring the watershed. Please help secure this legacy and the future of the Yuba and SYRCL with your donation now.
