National Volunteer Month 2024 Paves the Way for SYRCL’s River Ambassador Season

April is National Volunteer Month, and the third week of April is National Volunteer Week. This entire month, and this week especially, is a time to celebrate the outstanding individuals who freely offer their time and talents to give back to their communities. SYRCL has no shortage of these dedicated, multi-faceted, passionate individuals.

Whether you have been volunteering with SYRCL for 20 years or one year, your work matters and makes an impact. We could not carry out SYRCL’s mission to protect and restore the watershed without your commitment and support. One month is not enough to show our gratitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you, current and future SYRCL volunteers.

In the spirit of recognizing and honoring the contributions of volunteers, SYRCL will be doing a series on social media featuring some of SYRCL’s very own volunteers. If you would like to be featured in this series or have a volunteer in mind you think we should feature, please email SYRCL’s Communications and Engagement Director, Daniel Elkin, at delkin@yubariver.org.

Volunteers are the backbone of what SYRCL does, so let’s highlight all of their amazing stories, personalities, and efforts!

This month is also an opportunity to reaffirm your commitment to giving back and join the impact of volunteerism. While volunteering with SYRCL has a direct impact on protecting and restoring the Yuba watershed, it also creates positive personal outcomes. Volunteering is said to make people happier by releasing serotonin and make people more employable by contributing to professional skills and leadership development, among other benefits.

SYRCL has many different opportunities for volunteering throughout the year. If you are interested in learning more, please contact SYRCL’s Community Engagement Manager Maddie Davis at maddie@yubariver.org or visit Volunteer • SYRCL (yubariver.org) for more information.

SYRCL has an upcoming opportunity to reignite your passion for volunteerism within your own life and community: our River Ambassador Program.

The program runs from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Training will be held May 16th, 2024 from 5:30-7 PM at the SYRCL office.

It will also be offered virtually

As a River Ambassador, you’ll have the chance to represent SYRCL and educate river visitors at popular South Yuba River State Park river crossings to promote safe, responsible and non-polluting recreation.

Not only will you be making a positive impact on the environment, but you’ll also be providing a warm and welcoming presence for visitors to the South Yuba River. You’ll act as a model steward, providing visitors with the tools and information to adopt stewardship principles into their own river recreation.

For questions about the River Ambassador program, please reach out to SYRCL’s Education and Outreach Coordinator Caitlin Martin at caitlinm@yubariver.org
