10 Steps to Becoming A Yuba River Cleanup Volunteer
To protect our river and our community whilst being COVID safe, this year the Yuba River Cleanup will have a new format. Rather than one day of fun, the 2020 Yuba River Cleanup will be held across 12 days, allowing our community to volunteer in small groups while keeping social-distancing.
Follow these 10 Steps to becoming a Cleanup Volunteer in 2020
STEP 1: Visit yubarivercleanup.org
STEP 2: Download and read your Yuba River Cleanup Guide.
STEP 3: Review the site map of Cleanup locations and descriptions.
STEP 4: Register to volunteer at a Cleanup Site or register your Neighborhood Cleanup through our volunteer portal. You will receive a reminder email of your volunteer shift and location a few days before the Cleanup.
STEP 5: Order your Cleanup T-shirt. Check your email for a registration confirmation that includes a VOLUNTEER DISCOUNT CODE for your Cleanup t-shirt.
STEP 6: Gather your Cleanup supplies, trash bags, gloves, sunscreen, water bottle, and face mask. See a complete Cleanup checklist in the Cleanup Guide.
STEP 7: Volunteers can pick up extra Cleanup supplies and their 2020 Cleanup t-shirt at the SYRCL’s Yuba River Cleanup Drive-Thru before heading out to pick up trash. The Cleanup Drive-Thru will be located across the street from 313 Railroad Ave. in Nevada City.
STEP 8: Pick up as much trash as you can carry, track what you are collecting with a Cleanup data card (located inside Yuba River Cleanup Guide), estimate or weigh your findings. Track any left trash still needing removed for the next volunteer shift.
STEP 9: Dispose of garbage and recycling in your home bins or drop off at SYRCL office during drive-through hours.
Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 1:30pm
Saturday – Sunday: 8:30am – 5:30pm
STEP 10: Complete a trash tally report and submit your entry for the Trash or Treasure Contest. Report additional trash needing removal to SYRCL along with any other outstanding notes about your site.
