2025 Environmentalist of the Year Scholarship
The application period for 2025 is open!
Deadline: February 1, 2025The Environmentalist of the Year Scholarship is offered each year to a graduating high school senior pursuing a degree in an environmental field (science, advocacy, education, art, communication, technology, sustainability, etc.). We have offered this $4,000 scholarship ($1,000/year for four years) annually to local students since 2002.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL). To build on our legacy of safeguarding the Yuba Watershed, we must look to the next 40 years to ensure a new generation will care about our rivers, forests, and meadows and stand up to new threats when arise.
SYRCL is preparing for the future by investing in our outreach and education programs, especially in our new Education Department. We are absolutely committed to inspiring the next generation of watershed stewards and advocates.

SYRCL Awards its 2022 Environmentalist of the Year Scholarship to Owen Papegaay
On Wednesday, April 26, SYRCL hosted the annual State of the Yuba event where, Owen Papegaay, a graduating senior from Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning (SAEL), was he was awarded the scholarship. Owen plans to pursue a degree in Marie Biology from Cal State Monterey Bay in the fall.
