Dear Yuba Lovers,

During an unequaled year, including a pandemic, COVID-19 restrictions, and a staggering number of wildfires, I want to send my sincerest thanks to each and every volunteer that helped during the 23rd Annual Yuba River Cleanup in “Protecting Our Happy Place.” Over a 12-day period, from September 16-27, 2020, seven hundred & sixty volunteers turned out in “Quaran-teams” to removed more than three tons of garbage and recycling from the beaches, trails, tributaries, and neighborhoods of the Yuba River watershed.

Check out the complete Cleanup Summary with a tally of all the trash we removed from the river along with great photos and messages from your fellow cleanup volunteers.

During the annual California Coastal Cleanup Month of September, over 10,000 volunteers from across the state joined together in 3,000 cleanups to remove more than 70,000lbs of trash and recycling from beaches, trails, and waterways in California.

According to past Coastal Commission cleanup data, 75% of the debris that volunteers remove is composed of plastic –most of it single-use, disposable plastic – a material that never completely biodegrades and has numerous harmful consequences in the environment. Plastic pollution can kill wildlife, leach toxins into the environment, and even introduce them into the food chain.

Since up to 80 percent of the trash on the California coast originates on land, volunteers across the state have helped prevent enormous amounts of trash from ever reaching the ocean.

You are the protectors and voice for the Yuba & Bear Rivers. You are the community that will keep these rivers beautiful and pristine for many generations to come. No one group or individual can do this alone, it takes an entire community coming together with a common goal.

Thank you volunteers for all your hard work and for keeping each other safe at the river. Thank you to our sponsors & partners for your support of this Cleanup and to the health of the Yuba River.

Keep on Protecting Your Happy Place!
