Suzan is an incredible volunteer, with a big heart and vibrant energy.  It has been a pleasure and a delight to work with her since I came to SYRCL two years ago.  Her abundant experience with events and festivals is obvious.  She is the type of person who sees a need and immediately responds.  Suzan learns quickly and thrives in fast-paced environments.  She effortlessly juggles phones ringing off the hook, returning messages, graciously acting as a stand-in receptionist, all while recording detailed notes to pass along.  Suzan likes a challenge and no job is too arduous for her.  Suzan, thank you for swooping in like Super-Woman during one of my busiest seasons, the Film Fest.  Your help is extremely appreciated!–Jenn Tamo, River People Manager

SYRCL: Suzan, tell us a bit about yourself.

Suzan:  I first came to this community in 1970.  Unfortunately, I was not able to stay at that time; I had to return to southern CA for family matters. I could not wait to return to put down roots where I felt was the best place to live in the entire USA, and I moved here permanently when my daughter was a few months old in 1977. I currently spend most of my time caring for the elderly in their homes, attending church, volunteering, and socializing with friends. In the past, I worked in event and festival planning, resort and guest service management, and property management.

SYRCL: What is your involvement with SYRCL, and what makes SYRCL valuable to you so you are willing to volunteer your time and energy to the organization?

Suzan:  I have always enjoyed volunteering. I also feel that everyone can and should help and support the community where they live in some way. In the 70’s and 80’s there were very few events here other than the County Fair and the Blue Grass Festival. Now there are many places where one can serve. Personally, I feel the contributions that the Wild and Scenic Film Festival makes to this community are numerous; it is one of my favorite events in our community. SYRCL has welcomed me to be a part of the festival for six years now. I am always honored to work alongside so many wonderful people who contribute to the success of this event. One of the things that stands out while doing so is how gracious, respectful, grateful, and considerate those at SYRCL are in their interaction with their volunteers. Thank you, it makes me want to return every year!

Thanks to Suzan for all she does for SYRCL and the Yuba!
