The 2015 California Rivers Day activities include:
To visibly demonstrate support for our rivers, the day will begin with a pancake breakfast at Discovery Park, and a short paddle down the Sacramento River to the base of the Capitol Mall. Boaters will then march up the Mall to join the Rivers Fair at the Capitol described below. All are welcome and we will also invite legislators, state resource agency staff, and members of the media to join us. FOR and partner groups have the equipment, professional guides, and insurance to safely organize this paddle, but feel free to bring your own boat.
From 9:00am to 4:00pm we will be meeting with legislators and the Governor’s Office. We will focus on Assembly and Senate leadership, key committee members and legislators representing our most threatened rivers. Each appointment will be set up in advance to include experts, advocates, employers, and citizens from each member’s district.
California Rivers Fair at the Capitol
Informational booths representing 25+ river organizations and river oriented businesses will set up on the West Steps of the State Capitol from 10am-4pm. The event is open to the public and will include games and music. Meet organizations from across the state who are working to convey the value of healthy rivers for water quality, recreation, wildlife, and the economy.
Noon Program & Press Event
At noon, participants will gather for a short program and press event on the West Steps of the Capitol. Supportive elected officials and state agency leaders will address how healthy rivers matter for all Californians. This will be followed by a roll call of rivers and river groups present.
The evening will conclude, 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with a reception just steps from the Capitol to celebrate our hard work and mingle with river advocates from around the state. Enjoy delectable food and terrific wine and beer while supporting ongoing efforts to protect California’s Rivers. Click here for more information.
