The South Yuba River Citizens League’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival (WSFF) and the Nevada County Arts Council (NC Arts) invite artists to submit their work for consideration in the 23rd annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival Art Exhibition, taking place from February 13-28, 2025.

The film festival is famous for its use of environmental and adventure films to inspire activism, and WSFF and NC Arts are seeking art submissions that do the same. Artists are encouraged to submit pieces that address a broad interpretation of the concept of “the environment.” While all artwork will be considered, WSFF and NC Arts are especially interested in pieces that examine the theme of the 2025 film festival, “Wild at Heart”. This theme speaks to the power of wild places to spark inspiration, compassion, and understanding of the world around us.

“Wild & Scenic and the Arts Council are grateful to be able to continue to bring the impressive selection of artwork we curate for this Art Exhibition to our community and visiting festival attendees.  Each year I am impressed by the quality of artwork submissions we receive and am looking forward to another great exhibition embracing the 2025 Wild at Heart theme this coming year” says film festival Director Eric Dunn.

The Executive Director of the Arts Council, Eliza Tudor, adds, “As the nation’s leading environmental and adventure film festival, Wild & Scenic shines bright as a bastion of activism. Stirring a deep respect for nature untamed, its Visual Art Contest and Exhibition complements months of programming in venues across the Grass Valley-Nevada City Cultural District. We are humbled to partner with the festival on this, ensuring that by February each year artists are engaged and celebrated fiercely and wildly. This year’s theme of Wild at Heart says it all.”

Between Feb. 13 and 28, juried art will be showcased at the Granucci Gallery, located at The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley. The featured artwork in this exhibition contributes to the immersive nature of the February festival experience. Artists passionate about the environment can showcase their best work and share a meaningful message through their unique artistic visions.

Western Nevada County is home to over 100 arts-related organizations producing upwards a thousand events per year, scores of annual festivals, street fairs, art walks, studio tours, and a generous base of artists and makers. This vibrant cultural scene is centered in the Grass Valley-Nevada City Cultural District, designated by the California Arts Council as one of only 14 cultural districts in the state, highlighting our thriving cultural diversity and unique artistic identity.
Art submissions for the exhibition are accepted in three categories: 3-Dimensional, 2-Dimensional, and Photography. Artists can submit up to 3 pieces per entry in a single category.

The jury will look for work that stands out within the greater themes of the festival, which is a fundraising driver of the South Yuba River Citizens League, a non-profit organization whose mission is to unite the community to protect and restore the Yuba River watershed. Award-winners will be recognized and presented with certificates at the Exhibition Opening Reception on Thurs. Feb. 13th.
