The South Yuba River Citizens League is offering a fly fishing workshop this month: Fly Fishing 101.

This newly scheduled event is set for Saturday, October 28, 2023, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, at our office in Nevada City.

Led by experienced instructor Clay Hash (of Fly Fishing Traditions), this workshop involves classroom instruction in the morning and a fly fishing equipment demonstration at Pioneer Park in the afternoon. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet people and learn a hobby that can open up new ways of exploring the Yuba watershed.

What You Will Learn:

  • Introduction to the sport and art of fly fishing
  • The necessary gear
  • The fly rod, fly lines, and their assembly
  • Fly casting
  • The bugs that fish eat and how to match them with flies
  • Fish catching tactics
  • Trout and their habitat
  • The Catch and Release Ethic

EVENT DATE:  Saturday October 28, 2023, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Where: South Yuba River Citizens League Office  Conference Room &
Pioneer Park, Nevada City

What to Bring:

  • Notepad & pen/pencil
  • Sunglasses & sunscreen
  • Water or other hydration
  • Lunch & snacks
  • Fly rod, reel, fly line, 3x leader. If you have them. If not, they will be provided.
