Share with Your People

SYRCL is embarking on its 20th year of River Monitoring, and we need you! We are seeking dedicated, environmentally-driven volunteers to monitor water quality at 35 sites throughout the Yuba watershed. The vast amount of water quality data we have collected over the last 19 years has been crucial in protecting and restoring the Yuba River watershed. Join our team and help us celebrate this milestone year! Sign up Today.

Saturday, March 14th is the first monitoring day of 2020. Every river monitoring day thereafter will fall on the second Saturday of each month, through November. Our trained River Monitors will head out to collect water samples and monitor water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity and turbidity. River Monitors have the opportunity to work in the magnificent canyons of the Yuba watershed while collecting vital information for a great cause.

Let us know if you’re interested by registering for our orientation on March 25th from 6-7:30 pm AND a field training on April 4th from 9 am-1:30 pm.

Sign up for Orientation

The first orientation on Wednesday, March 25th will be held at the SYRCL office, located at 313 Railroad Ave in Nevada City. At this introductory evening session, you will learn:

  • the background of SYRCL’s River Monitoring Program
  • gain insight on what we are monitoring
  • learning why we monitor our watershed.

The mandatory field training is scheduled for Saturday, April 4th at the Bridgeport Crossing at the South Yuba River State Park on Pleasant Valley Rd. During this hands-on training, you will:

  • become familiar with SYRCL’s sampling protocol
  • practice working with the sampling equipment
  • learn to fill out the monitoring data-sheets

SYRCL volunteers make the River Monitoring program one of the strongest citizen-based monitoring projects in the nation! Thank you to all of our dedicated citizen scientists who make it possible!
