Saturday June 21, July 12 & 26, August 16 & 30: Aspen Regeneration
Do you want to help the Yuba watershed become more resilient in the face of climate change and drought? Then join SYRCL and the Tahoe National Forest and get your hands dirty volunteering in beautiful mountain meadows near the Yuba headwaters. Mountain meadows are a natural source of clean water for the Yuba River, and restoring them is a strategic priority for SYRCL. Come out with us to learn about meadow ecosystems and help restore aspen tree habitat, one of the Sierra Nevada’s biodiversity hotspots!

Mid July: River Ambassador Training
Are you a dedicated river lover who is passionate about environmental stewardship? If so, join our 2014 team of exceptional River Ambassadors, who help keep the South Yuba healthy, clean and safe! The fun and engaging training will take place mid-July. You will learn Leave no Trace ethics and Non-Violent Communication to strengthen your people and environmental advocacy skills!

Sunday, July 20: Damnation
Join American Rivers & SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival for a screening of DamNation, followed by a panel discussion on Yuba salmon. Be inspired by this film odyssey across America exploring the sea change in our national attitude from pride in big dams as engineering wonders to the growing awareness that our own future is bound to the life and health of our rivers.
Location: Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad St. Nevada City. Doors open at 6:30pm (general admission $15, VIP reception and reserved seating $75).
September 15: Film Submission Deadline for the 13th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival annual call for entries submission deadline is September 15, 2014. The thirteenth annual festival takes place January 15-18, 2015, in downtown Nevada City and Grass Valley, CA.
Wild & Scenic seeks unique environmental and adventure films that aim to inspire and educate. Approximately 100 films will be officially selected out of the more than 400 anticipated entries. Wild & Scenic On Tour then travels to almost 150 locations in the United States and internationally. This On Tour program gives filmmakers a wonderful opportunity for worldwide exposure.
Saturday, September 20: The 17th Annual Yuba River Cleanup and Restoration Day
Join SYRCL to restore the Yuba River watershed at over 35 sites along 90 miles of shoreline, a culmination of a successful 3rd season of SYRCL’s River Ambassador Program engaging with river visitors all summer. Last year, more than 550 volunteers collected over 11,450 pounds of trash from the Yuba and Bear River corridors. This year come out with your family and friends to help keep the Yuba clean! Participate as an individual or register with a team of your friends.
The Annual Cleanup and the new River Ambassador Program have real costs; community support is vital to help to keep them going. This year we will continue our 2nd annual Clean-a-thon so that Yuba River lovers like you can ask your friends and family to sponsor your day cleaning up the river. All funds raised will support the Annual Cleanup, the River Ambassadors and SYRCL’s work to protect and restore the Yuba River year-round.

Saturday, October 4: Hike with Hank Meals (Location to be Determined)
There is never a dull moment on an adventure with Hank Meals, local historian, archaeologist, author and Yuba River trail guru. Explore new territory with fellow friends and meet new ones, too! Past journeys have included hikes through the Sierra Buttes, Donner Pass, and Grouse Ridge.

October and November: Salmon Rafting Expeditions
Join us this fall on a float down the Yuba River, and witness for yourself the amazing natural wonder of wild Chinook salmon in their spawning grounds. SYRCL river naturalists and the excellent river guides at Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC) will take you and your family on an adventure down the river to see Yuba salmon in their natural habitat. So hold on to your paddles, this tour down the Yuba will teach you about the salmon life cycle, their ecology, the impact humans have on these incredible fish, and give you an inside look into SYRCL’s effort to restore salmon habitat at the Hammon Bar Restoration project.
