Raise Your Voice for Yuba Salmon!

Share with Your People

SYRCL supporters have been hearing about it for years: Relicensing of the hydropower projects on the Yuba is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to restore river health to the many impacted river reaches in the Yuba Basin. “FERC re-licesensing” is also critical to SYRCL’s strategy for restoring salmon to suitable habitats in the upper Yuba River.

Next week is a critical time to have YOUR voice heard. Staff from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will be in town for a “Scoping Meeting” on the hydropower facilities associated with Yuba County Water Agency’s operations. Unlike the ongoing highly technical proceedings, this is one of the first and few times that FERC will be taking oral (or written) comments in such a public forum.

Despite the fact that Englebright Reservoir serves as a re-regulating afterbay for YCWA’s Colgate Powerhouse, and a forebay for YCWA and PG&E powerhouses, the current “preliminary application document” ignores this fact and–presently–the major impacts to salmon and river health caused by Englebright Dam are being excluded from review!

Join SYRCL’s Executive Director, Jason Rainey, and other river advocates at the “Scoping Meetings” scheduled for Wednesday, February 2nd at the Yuba County Government Center located at 915 8th Street in Marysville. There is both a 1pm meeting and an evening meeting at 7pm.

Those interested in joining a carpool and orientation to the issues with SYRCL staff leaving from Grass Valley (meeting at 6pm) for the evening Scoping Meeting, are encouraged to contact jason@syrcl.org.
