As part of our Growing Green initiative, on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 8:30 AM, join SYRCL at Three Forks in Nevada City for coffee and a conversation with Daniel Fink, owner of the award-winning Down Om Farms located in the Sierra Foothills, to explore regenerative cultivation practices.

In this session we will explore how to prepare your garden for the spring season using regenerative farming practices.

Whether you’re a seasoned farmer or a new gardener just starting out, this workshop is designed to inspire and equip you with the knowledge to create a thriving, sustainable garden and crop.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Soil Building & Composting: Learn how to build rich, fertile soil. Hear about best practices that utilized compost from Daniel’s small Alpaca herd and worm farm.
  • Regenerative Practices: Discover techniques to minimize your carbon footprint and support the microbiology that sustains your garden.
  • Integrated Gardening: Explore the benefits of growing food, flowers, and cannabis together to enrich your ecosystem and community.
  • Questions and Answers: Get practical tips and ask questions about how to apply these practices in your own garden.

About Down OM Farms:

Down OM Farms is a family-owned and operated cannabis cottage cultivation nestled in the Sierra Foothills of California. We are dedicated to building soil and compost through regenerative practices, supporting the microbiology that supports us. Our gardens not only feed our family but also enrich the ecosystem and community we are part of.

As part of the Farming Tales Session on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Oddfellows Hall in Nevada City, the short documentary, Nevada County: A Case Study for Legal Cannabis will be featured.

About the film: Prop 64 legalized cannabis in 2016 in California and is here to stay. How can regulating cannabis farming transform what had at times been a challenge for communities into positive opportunities for rural economic development, increased sustainability and community resiliency?

In 2023 the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD) and the Nevada County Cannabis Alliance (NCCA) collaborated on a short film highlighting one of the most successful examples of local cannabis cultivation regulations in California to date. Produced by local filmmakers Kit Kohler and Val Camp of Riparian Studios, Nevada County: A Case Study for Legal Cannabis calls attention to the diverse benefits of supporting small scale, sustainable cannabis farmers here in California.

At the screening will be:

  • Diana Gamzon, Director of film and Executive Director of the Nevada County Cannabis Alliance
  • Maggie Philipsborn, Director of film and Project Manager at the Nevada County Cannabis Alliance
  • Val Camp, Producer
  • Kit Kohler, Producer
