Calling all nature enthusiasts! Are you looking for a fulfilling volunteer opportunity that combines your love for the river and passion for educating others? Look no further than the South Yuba River Citizens League’s River Ambassador Program.

The program runs from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Training will be held May 18, 2023, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the SYRCL Office and online.

As a River Ambassador, you’ll have the chance to represent SYRCL and promote safe, responsible, and non-polluting recreation at the South Yuba River by educating visitors about the impact of trash, dog waste, broken glass, and the potential for catastrophic wildfires.

With “The Yuba Is For Everyone” as a guiding principle, you can inspire a shift in local recreation culture towards personal accountability and the reduction of trash in the river.

Not only will you be making a positive impact on the environment, but you’ll also be providing a warm and welcoming presence for visitors to the South Yuba River. You’ll act as a model steward, collecting litter and debris alongside the river, and providing visitors with the tools and information to do the same.

Additionally, you’ll work with fellow river advocates – many River Ambassadors leave the program with long-lasting connections.

The River Ambassador Program is supported by California State Parks and SYRCL, and offers training, resources, and support for all volunteers. As a River Ambassador, you’ll collect data on the type of waste collected, the number of people spoken to, and the amount of trash and dog waste bags distributed, giving you a concrete understanding of the program’s effectiveness.

Whether you’re a seasoned river-goer or just starting out, we welcome you to apply and be a part of this fun and exciting program.
