Share with Your People

On October 2, the second event in SYRCL’s exciting new educational series, “Watershed Science and Policy in the Sierra Foothills” will focus on The Future of Hydropower in partnership with Nevada County Department of Environmental Health.

The guest speakers are Placer County Water Agency’s Director of Strategic Affairs Andy Fecko, U.S. Forest Service’s Hydroelectric Coordinator for the Tahoe and Plumas National Forests Amy Lind, as well as other hydropower experts. We will have a networking reception starting at 5:30pm, followed by the speakers that will discuss their expertise in hydropower relicensing proceedings and the future of hydropower in California from different stakeholder perspectives. Afterwards, there will be a questions and answers session moderated by SYRCL’s River Policy Manager Ashley Overhouse.

While California has historically been on the cutting edge of environmental protections, the future of hydropower generation in light of a changing regulatory landscape coupled with the impacts of climate change, is uncertain. It is vital that our community, home to one of the largest and oldest hydropower networks and California’s headwaters, understands the important role hydropower generation has played in the unique nexus of California’s water and energy sectors.

SYRCL is a member organization of Foothills Water Network and California Hydropower Reform Coalition, and an active participant in the dam and hydropower relicensing proceedings. For more information, please check out SYRCL’s dam relicensing activities on our website
