Centennial Dam’s Federal Environmental Review Process Has Begun

Calling all Dam Watchdogs!

The Army Corps of Engineers is coming to Auburn and Grass Valley to solicit input about the proposed Centennial Dam. The public has two opportunities to attend these meetings and 37 days to submit comments on Nevada Irrigation District’s (NID) plans to construct Centennial – a new 275-foot-tall dam and 110,000 acre foot reservoir on the Bear River between the existing Rollins and Combie Reservoirs.

Just last Friday, February 10, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released its Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement, initiating the federal environmental review process for the proposed Centennial Dam.

Take Action

Now it’s up to concerned citizens to take action and show NID and USACE that the community is closely scrutinizing every angle of this project. Submitting letters, or speaking out at the public scoping meetings, is the official way to be heard on the record and have standing. It is important for  USACE to hear from our community that this study be comprehensive in exploring impacts related to water supply, water quality, utilities and public services, traffic and navigation, fish, vegetation, wildlife, land use and agriculture, recreation, visual resources, air quality, and climate change. Comment letters are due Monday, April 10.
