Attacks on Clean Water Protections Threaten the Yuba

The Trump Administration’s efforts to sacrifice clean water for energy projects are directly impacting the Yuba and its tributaries.

SYRCL needs your help as we confront the challenges coming from an anti-environmental White House. Please make a special gift to our Clean Water Fund to safeguard the Yuba River. You can help us take action to ensure clean water protections for the Yuba are not lost.

Recently the Nevada Irrigation District (NID) asked for a waiver of their clean water requirement for a hydroelectric project. It shocked me because they were the very first in the nation to exploit an emerging loophole in the federal licensing process. Immediately, SYRCL and our allies protested the waiver, because it endangers federal protections for the Yuba and Bear rivers and undermines hard-won agreements that took years to negotiate.

If the feds grant this waiver, California would no longer have the opportunity to protect the Yuba system from the environmental damage the project would cause.

This new reality is untenable for the Yuba watershed and all of us. It has sounded the alarm that while we must have our feet grounded in this special place, our eyes must be on Sacramento and Washington D.C. because threats to the Yuba can come from anywhere, and so much is at stake.

Which is why your special gift today is so critical. With you by our side, I believe we can bring positive change that can pull us back from the brink of irreversible damage.

Your support can help us build a sustainable future for our rivers, creeks, and citizens. You’ll fuel our current programs to protect the Yuba and allow us to take on bigger issues, like watchdogging how anti-environmental policies will affect our region and taking action to challenge them. The busy summer season almost is here. Please help us sustain SYRCL’s essential programs that protect the Yuba with a generous gift by June 30.
