After a number of years off, the South Yuba River Citizens League is proud to bring back its State of the Yuba event.

Join the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) on Wednesday, April 26 at the annual State of the Yuba address at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley. State of the Yuba is SYRCL’s free, open to the public report to the watershed community. It’s also an invitation to take action for the river.

Hear from SYRCL’s team about the condition of the river, SYRCL’s vision for the future, education and volunteer opportunities, current projects, challenges, recent successes, and more ways to get involved.

The State of the Yuba event is also an opportunity for SYRCL to recognize the many people and organizations who have donated their time and their resources to help SYRCL continue to fight for the health of the Yuba watershed.

Join SYRCL in honoring :

Volunteer of the Year: Rorie Gotham

SYRCL is thrilled to honor Rorie Gotham as the Volunteer of the Year for her outstanding dedication to the organization and the Yuba River Watershed over the past decades. Rorie has generously contributed her time and expertise to nearly all of SYRCL’s programs, including river monitoring, the Wild and Scenic Film Festival, the Yuba River Cleanup, Quiz Night, and more. Her unwavering kindness, skillful contributions, and extensive community knowledge make her a highly respected and deeply appreciated member of the SYRCL community. We are proud to recognize Rorie for her exceptional volunteerism and are grateful for all that she has done to support SYRCL’s mission.

Sponsor of the Year: Briar Patch Co-op

Since 2002, Briar Patch has been a generous supporter and sponsor of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, our annual Yuba River Cleanup, our annual Wild for the Yuba auction, and our River Ambassador’s program’s efforts to promote reef safe sunscreen and pack it in/pack it out practices at the river during the summer.

Partner of the Year: Yuba Water Agency

Yuba Water Agency has been a valuable partner throughout the Yuba watershed as a key stakeholder, environmental partner, and supporter. Together, we are working to improve the health of our Forests through the North Yuba Forest Partnership. YWA is also partnering with SYRCL on three salmon restoration projects in the lower Yuba River, and they have helped us expand our fall Salmon Tours to reach even more students.

Additionally, SYRCL will also be announcing this year’s recipient of the Environmentalist of the Year Scholarship at this event.

We look forward to seeing everyone on April 26 at Peace Lutheran Church.  Doors open at 5:30. Come in and mingle with SYRCL staff to find out more about all the efforts we are engaged in to protect and preserve the Yuba.

Food from La Guaira Bistro will be available for purchase, as will an assortment of beer, wine, and soft drinks.

The program begins at 6:30.
