Aaron Zettler-Mann, SYRCL’s Executive Director, gave public comments on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the State Water Resources Control Board as part of its 3-part Public Workshop on the Proposed Voluntary Agreements related to the Sacramento/Delta Update to the Water Quality Control Plan for the San Francisco Bay/Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Estuary.

In his comments, Zettler-Mann stressed the fact that no environmental or tribal preferred plan had been given the same energy and time as the proposed Voluntary Agreements. He critiqued the emphasis on restoration projects in the proposed Voluntary Agreements and minimization of the clear significance of simply having more water in the system. He then reminded the Board that there is more paper water allocated to various demands than there is real water that exists and that we need an honest reconciliation with that fundamental failure of the system we have created.

Finally, Zettler-Mann left the board with a copy of the letter to Govenor Newsom signed by over 600 people during SYRCL’s 2024 Wild & Scenic Film Festival asking that more water make it through the system and out beyond the Golden Gate Bridge.
