How You Can Get Involved in Opposing the ID-MD Mine

Share with Your People

Get involved in stopping the Idaho-Maryland Mine! We need your help and your voice to prevent the mine from being reopened.

SYRCL, like many organizations and businesses, is concerned that should the Idaho-Maryland Mine reopen, mining operations would introduce pollution into our waterways, dewater groundwater, and dry up private wells that are already being adversely impacted by long periods of drought.

You can help in the fight against the mine by getting involved in the following ways:

  1. Join MineWatch for a Community Week of Action from Friday, March 18th through the 20th. Help show the magnitude of community opposition by volunteering at a table and helping get petitions signed.
  2. Attend the County Planning Commission, Thursday March 24 at 9:30am at the Rood Center. Your presence makes a statement to the County and lets them know how strong the opposition is to the ID-MD Mine. Consider preparing comments to be read to the Commission at the March 24th meeting.  You can speak for 2 minutes.  Deliver your written statement to the Clerk at the meeting — whether or not you speak.  Comments should address to the DEIR (Draft Environmental Impact Report). The County plans to include all comments in a package with the DEIR delivered to the Board of Supervisors.  The DEIR is full  of negative impacts and Rise Mine’s promises.  Pick one and say what you think about it.
  3. Sign the petition. Tell the Nevada County Board of Supervisors you want them to Stop the Idaho-Maryland Mine.
  4. Write an opinion piece and submit it to the Union newspaper.

We have to act together to protect our community.
