As the curtain rises on the much-anticipated 2024 Wild & Scenic Film Festival (February 15-19, 2024), we find ourselves reflecting on the behind-the-scenes stars who infuse this event with life—the passionate Film Festival volunteers. Drawing from the 2023 post-Wild & Scenic Film Festival volunteer survey, the responses paint a vivid picture of the profound engagement and meaningful connections forged within this community. Additionally, 91% of attendees surveyed expressed that they were “Very likely” to volunteer again. This resounding endorsement speaks volumes about the impact of volunteering on individuals and the enduring sense of community fostered by the festival.
The South Yuba River Citizens League’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival is thrilled to bring the film Blueback (dir. Robert Connoly) to The Nevada Theatre on Tuesday, October 24th at 7:00 pm in collaboration with the Onyx Downtown series from the Onyx Theatre in Nevada City.
With June being Pride Month, we wanted to take this opportunity to highlight a few of the incredible Wild & Scenic Film Festival official selections that explore LGBTQIA+ subjects and issues in their films.
Wild & Scenic focuses on storytelling and amplifying voices that have been systematically marginalized. Films can serve as a potent tool to educate and inspire activism and growth, and the Wild & Scenic Film Festival is committed to offering programming that addresses environmental injustice, racism, and inequity as well as lack of representation in the outdoors and environmental movements.
From the annual “SYRCL action” to collect signatures for a cause, to the workshops and panels taking a deeper dive into various issues facing our planet, presenting paths to inspire change has always been central to the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. WSFF’s 2024 theme, “Reel Action,” pays homage to the festival’s mission to inspire activism. The festival will look for films that work as a call to action, inviting audiences to learn about the most pressing environmental problems and initiatives anyone can take to improve the natural world and lives around the globe.
The 21st Wild & Scenic Film Festival has come to end, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything went. Thank…
