8 Yuba Friendly Gifts for the Yuba Lover on Your List

Share with Your People

As the traditional “shopping season” begins to ramp up during the holidays, we at the South Yuba River Citizens League thought we would put together a list of Yuba Friendly Gifts for your loved ones and ones who love the Yuba.

A SYRCL Gift Membership

A Gift Membership is the perfect way to share your love of the Yuba River with the ones you care about most! People, like you and those on your list, are the lifeblood of SYRCL and critical for our work to protect and restore the Yuba watershed.

Passes to SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival

Give the Gift of Inspiration with passes to SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival. For over two decades, SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival has welcomed audiences to the towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City for its flagship event. During Presidents Day weekend, February 19-23, the festival takes over the towns.  The festival is not only about first-class films, it also features a variety of events, such as activist workshops, an art exhibition in partnership with the Nevada County Arts Council, the EnviroFair, filmmaker Q&A sessions, as well as opportunities to interact with filmmakers and special guests.

SYRCL Merch

From hats to t-shirts, books to bags, SYRCL has the merch that helps your loved ones proclaim their love for the Yuba. Drop on into the SYRCL Offices at 313 Railroad Avenue in Nevada City and we will be happy to help you outfit the Yuba Protector in your life.

The Yuba River Watershed Map

Also available at our office, is our highly informative and educational Yuba Watershed Map. It comes in two sizes: poster sized (3’x2′) for $35 and the smaller size (18″x12″) for $25. Either size map is perfect for posting in the office or classroom. The map is rich with information: boundaries of state parks, national forest and counties, reservoirs, dams, diversions, meadows, and even the current and historical upstream extent of salmon and steelhead.  Much appreciation to Lisa Lackey, GIS (Geographic Information System) Specialist, for creating this wonderful map.

SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival Merch

It is, hands down, the coolest swag in town. Emblazoned across t-shirts, mugs, hoodies, and more, is the latest WSFF artwork for the 2026 festival by artist Jeremy Collins celebrating the “Mobilize” theme of this year’s programming.

Sun Protective Clothing

An even better option than sunscreen is by ditching it altogether and opting for sun protective clothing. Hats, hoodies, water shirts are all good options to keep the sun from damaging your skin and ensuring that the Yuba stays clean. Reusable Water Bottles and Snack Bags

Plastic, especially microplastics, continues to be a major source of pollution in all of our water sources, including the Yuba. One way to combat plastic pollution is to use reusable water bottles, beeswax wraps, and snack bags and keep plastics from ever getting into the system. We recommend water bottles from Klean Kanteen and To-Go Ware from Chico Bag. You can find an array of reusable bottles and To-Go Ware at Briar Patch Co-op or California Organics

Reef-Safe or Reef-Friendly Sunscreen

While not really what you would call a traditional “gift” — we thought we would put in a plug for, if you are going to be using it, a better sunscreen. Many sunscreens contain toxins harmful chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate that have been found to be lethal to some freshwater organisms and leave an oily slick on the river surface. Reef-Safe and Reef-Friendly Sunscreens, available at Briar Patch Co-op or California Organics are a better option.
