Rehabilitation Concepts Report Completed for the Lower Yuba River

Efforts to restore salmon and steelhead of the Yuba River reached an important milestone this week

with the completion of the Rehabilitation Concepts Report for the Lower Yuba River.  Prepared by SYRCL’s technical consultants, the 60 page report provides an analysis of how historic mining related activities and dams have impacted riparian and aquatic

habitats.  The report focuses on the four miles of river from Parks Bar to Hammon Bar and describes ten potential habitat restoration projects to be constructed on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management or put into a conservation easement by Western Aggregates LLC.  Some projects, such as moving dredger training walls to restore floodplain surfaces,

would require years of planning and fund development.  Other, relatively simple projects, such as cottonwood pole planting, could be implemented within a year under the budgets of existing restoration funds.  The report was funded by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and SYRCL will be following-up with specific plans for implementation of a pilot project over the next two years.
