Blue Forest, a conservation finance non-profit, in partnership with World Resources Institute (WRI), USDA Forest Service (USFS), and National Forest Foundation (NFF), announced the successful completion of its pilot Forest Resilience Bond (FRB), marking five years since the project launched. Restoration efforts on a 15,000 acre planning area on the Tahoe National Forest, which reduced the risk of catastrophic wildfire, paved the way for the formation of the North Yuba Forest Partnership.
On July 12, 2023, Tahoe National Forest issued the record of decision (ROD) for its North Yuba Landscape Resilience Project. The Forest Service and partners will now begin implementing the 275,000-acre vegetation and fuels management project in the North Yuba watershed over the next 15 to 20 years. The project aims to improve forest health, protect communities, and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire within the project area.
Recently, the Tahoe National Forest announced their on-going partnership with National Forest Foundation providing $117 million dollars to begin working to reduce wildfire risk on the North Yuba landscape. This funding will support the North Yuba Landscape Resilience Project which was developed through the North Yuba Forest Partnership – a partnership of which SYRCL was a founding member.
