Fire Safe Council Meeting – 1/11/23
On January 11, 2023, from 9:30 am -11:30 am, there will be a hybrid Yuba Watershed Protection and Firesafe Council meeting…
Throughout the year, SYRCL hosts several events to keep the community engaged, involved, and informed regarding the health of the Yuba River Watershed.
From our Annual River Cleanup at the end of the summer to our State of the Yuba which focuses on the health of the Yuba and what we can do together — year-round, year after year — to protect this beautiful place where we live, work and play, all our events support our mission to unite the community to protect and restore the Yuba River watershed.

Considered one of the nation’s premier environmental and adventure film festivals, Wild & Scenic Film Festival combines stellar filmmaking, beautiful cinematography, and first-rate storytelling to inform, inspire, and ignite solutions and possibilities to restore the earth and human communities while creating a positive future for the next generation.
Festival-goers can expect award-winning films about nature, community activism, adventure, conservation, water, energy and climate change, wildlife, environmental justice, agriculture, and more.
Each mid-September, River Cleanup volunteers make a huge difference in the health of our watershed. For over two decades, SYRCL has organized an annual Yuba River Cleanup event uniting the community to remove the trash that sadly builds up throughout the Yuba River watershed each year.
The annual River Cleanup started in 1997 as part of a larger cleanup effort called California Coastal Cleanup Day, which started in 1985 and is the largest volunteer event in the state.
Since its inception, the Yuba River Cleanup has removed more than 120 tons of garbage and recycling from the river. This cleanup effort augments our education and outreach efforts to promote river safety and etiquette to river-goers.
Since 2020, SYRCL has implemented a self-guided cleanup option where volunteers can pick up supplies and head out to their favorite site during a flexible time window. The Cleanup week concludes with a grand volunteer thank you party featuring music, food, and fun!

Quiz Night is an annual spring fundraiser for SYRCL’s Youth Environmentalist of the Year scholarship and and year-round River Education programs.
Since 2002, we have been gathering as a community for a night of revelry to raise support for our community’s high school graduating seniors (with the exception of 2020).
Each year, we award a $4,000 scholarship to support a local college-bound student who has demonstrated a commitment to the environment and is on their path to becoming an environmental steward.

Since 2013, in celebration of the Yuba River watershed, SYRCL hosts its “State of the Yuba” event each spring, where we invite the community to hear from our team about the condition of the river, SYRCL’s vision for the next five years, current projects, challenges, recent successes, and opportunities to get involved. We also honor our Volunteer of the Year and Partner of the Year at this event.
We invite everyone, including SYRCL members, supporters, and river lovers of all kinds and anyone interested in finding out more about SYRCL’s programs to come celebrate with SYRCL. The “State of the Yuba” is an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about SYRCL and find out how you can get involved in the stewardship of this magnificent river.

Every June, SYRCL hosts the Wild for the Yuba Tasting and Auction Experience. The event features live music, beer and wine tastings, great food, and hundreds of fabulous auction items donated by local businesses, artists, and others in support of the Yuba.
We gather with community members at this special dinner and silent auction to commemorate the South Yuba’s anniversary as a California Wild & Scenic River. The money raised at Wild for the Yuba supports SYRCL’s summer programs striving to keep the river healthy and safe, such as River Ambassadors and the Yuba River Cleanup.
Enjoy a festive kickoff to summer under the stars while helping to protect and restore our beloved Yuba Watershed!
