Fee: $400/team of 8 participants
This year’s theme is the Wizard of Oz. Dust off your ruby red slippers, grab your oil can and some extra straw, and follow the yellow brick road to the Peace Lutheran Church on Friday, March 9 for the animated and hilarious Quiz Night! It’s time to summon your courage, gather your teammates and don your thinking caps in anticipation of SYRCL’s annual Brains of Nevada County event!
Enjoy an evening of friendly competition to help raise funds for the Environmentalist of the Year Scholarship Fund. For the past sixteen years, SYRCL has been proud to offer a four-year college scholarship to a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated a commitment to the environment. Since 2002, sixteen $4,000 scholarships have been awarded.
Space fills quickly. To secure your table, register today! Teams are made up of eight participants and the buy-in is $400 per table.
Prizes are bestowed upon the highest and lowest scorers, as well as the most spirited team. And, players are encouraged to dress to impress in theme! Check out the photos from last year’s event below.
SYRCL will provide heavy hors d’oeuvres. *New this year* we will have a silent dessert auction. Beer, wine, coffee, tea and soda will be available for purchase. Please note: no outside alcohol is permitted.
Want to help make Quiz Night an over-the-rainbow experience? Join the volunteer team! We are looking for folks who would like to help before, during and after the event. This year’s theme is Wizard of Oz. Volunteers and participants alike are encouraged dress to impress and help us make Quiz Night an adventure this year!
Set Up: 12:00 – 4:00 PM
Are you a behind-the-scenes mover and shaker? Are you able to lift items up to 20+ pounds and carry awkward loads? Do you have experience preparing for events and making things sparkle?
We are on the lookout for volunteers to help us transform the Peace Lutheran Church into a Wizard of Oz wonderland. Before the event help us: pick up party materials; unload supplies and food; arrange the event space; assemble tables and chairs; set up tables with game materials, center pieces, menus; hang signage; affix directional parking signage; prepare gift baskets; assemble photo booth backdrop and props, etc. Basically, we need help prepping the space for an over-the-rainbow party!
Kitchen: 1:00 PM-4:00 PM
Calling all Julia Child aspirants and Pinterest-recipe-loving party people! Help prepare a dazzling feast for Quiz Night players. This year we will be hand-making heavy hors d’oeuvres and desserts in the kitchen. This is a fun job for people who enjoy making tasty foods beautiful. And, like with any great day in the kitchen, we will also need help washing dishes!
Runner & Cleanup: 6:00 PM-11:00 PM
Are you quick-on-your-feet, nimble, multi-tasker? We are looking for people who can skirt between a galaxy of tables in what will be a PACKED house. Runners manage 2-3 tables each, collecting and delivering answer sheets every round to the scorekeepers. Runners also act as bar liaisons, taking bulk drink orders and delivering to tables. This job is for a 21+ year old outgoing person who can balance the pace of the game with the boozy habits of participants. Please note: this position is a 5-hour shift and includes cleanup! Cleanup entails: packing up all supplies, taking down signage, disassembling chairs, tables, and the scoreboard, sweeping, vacuuming, loading and unloading (at the SYRCL office), taking out the trash, etc. Many hands make light work.
Scorekeeper & Cleanup: 6:00 PM-11:00 PM
Calling all our RED PEN friends. Do you like to strike through errors? Are you the go-to guy or gal for edits? We are looking for a fantastic team to help keep score. This is a fun and fast-paced job. Help us keep the game moving with the speedy review and tabulation of submitted answers each round of Quiz Night. Please note: this position is a 5-hour shift and includes cleanup! Cleanup entails: packing up all supplies, taking down signage, disassembling chairs, tables, and the scoreboard, sweeping, vacuuming, loading and unloading (supplies at the SYRCL office), taking out the trash, etc. Many hands make light work.

Help plate and replenish food throughout the evening, consolidate food, wash dishes, and pack up remaining food at the end of the night.
