In the 21st century, dams are a last resort because they harm the environment and have skyrocketing costs. Today, smart water managers are using sustainable and innovative solutions to meet future water needs.
We don’t need a new dam generating more polluting sprawl and traffic. Let’s work together to increase our water supply by restoring our forests and meadows, and use the water we do have more wisely.
More than half of the water in the upper Middle and South Yuba River watersheds is diverted to the Bear River.
Will they take more in the future when Centennial doesn’t fill?
At the NID Board Meeting January 23, 2019, the newly seated Board of Directors voted to “terminate without prejudice” Plan for Water facilitation consultants, The Kolbe Company, and chose a new public process, the American Water Works Association M50, that will be guided by public stakeholders. **UPDATE** Breaking News 11/14/18 2 p.m. Nevada Irrigation District (NID) Board of Directors voted unanimously in closed session to rescind Director Miller’s resolution introduced and passed during the Special Board Meeting October 9, 2018. Details
It has been four years since NID passed closed-session Resolution 2014-43, authorizing a water rights application for a “water storage project on the Bear River” without any public comment or board discussion. This was the beginning of Centennial Dam. Since then, SYRCL and others have tried to bring Centennial Dam into public purview to promote transparency and open dialogue. Details
This supposed “compromise” means NID will actually increase spending on Centennial Dam next year from the current staff recommendation. That does not sound like a compromise. Details
