The Yuba Forest Network hosted a field tour at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort on October 21. This tour showcased the current and future forest health projects at the headwaters of the South Yuba River. Katya Christian, Sugar Bowl’s Sustainability Manager, guided the group through the property and led the discussion on the different terrain, treatments, and considerations for the landscape.

The Yuba Forest Network is a central networking hub to connect resources and practitioners across the Yuba and Bear River watersheds. Created in 2019, YFN connects groups involved in forest health on projects, resources, opportunities, and planning. The Yuba Forest Network was created to address this need for increased collaboration by connecting stakeholders, projects, and resources in order to accelerate the pace and scale of forest health projects across the region.

Since its inception, the Yuba Forest Network:

  • Hosts a calendar of forest health related events across the watershed
  • crafts a bimonthly forest health newsletter
  • Has created a broadly accessible forest health stakeholder project map
  • Supports existing institutions to promote cross boundary collaboration
  • Has increased regional identity around Yuba Forests
