Aaron Zettler-Mann
Executive Director
Aaron grew up swimming and playing in the creeks and rivers near his coastal home in a small town in Humboldt County. Predictably, he found his way to working as a raft guide. He was a raft guide on rivers throughout the Sierra Nevada for nearly ten years.

Andrea, a Nevada County resident since birth, joined our team in October 2017. Having worked in accounting offices since she was 18, Andrea found she had a natural affinity for numbers and appreciated the orderliness which only a cleanly balanced set of books can produce.

Operations Manager
Her Latino father taught her that people are very different and the importance of embracing those differences. At the age of 20, Jessica decided to explore the world, learn English fluently, and move to San Francisco. There she worked in the medical tech industry as a CEO assistant and a project manager before she relocated to Grass Valley six years ago.

Carlyle Miller

Carlyle came to Nevada City from Rochester New York after a brief stint in Las Vegas studying desert tortoises. She first started working for SYRCL back in 1998 as the Membership & Volunteer Coordinator for the Wild & Scenic campaign. After a brief stint in Minnesota to study outdoor education, Carlyle returned to SYRCL to establish the RiverTeachers program in 2001.

After graduate school, Julie became the first executive director for a wildlife rehabilitation group in San Diego. There she saw first-hand how devastating habitat loss can be, especially for raptors and songbirds.

Born and raised in the Midwest, Katy’s love for the outdoors formed while exploring the woods, creeks, and trails near her home in Indiana. This passion for wild places only amplified after a cross-country move to Missoula, MT where she received her M.A. in Public Administration from the University of Montana.

Kylie Taylor
Forest Health Project Manager
With roots in California, Kylie developed her fondness for exploring nature swimming in the Pacific Ocean and exploring the Sierra Nevada mountains. She spent her undergrad studying Environmental Studies and Planning with a concentration in conservation and restoration. Dedicated to conservation and striving to effect positive change in the world, she taught elementary watershed science, high school biodynamic farming systems and regenerative agriculture, and managed natural resource projects related to fuels reduction, trails, and waterways in Sonoma and Marin Counties.

Growing up romping around in the rivers of North Carolina, Carly developed a deep respect for nature. She spent her undergrad studying Environmental Science with a concentration in Biology and completed an honors thesis focused on coral reef restoration. Inspired to support the land that brings her so much joy following graduation, she has worked on regenerative farms in northern California, for a land trust in the Eastern Sierra, and is now excited to bring her passion for watersheds to SYRCL!

Jack Roney
Restoration Coordinator
Jack grew up in Santa Rosa, spending much of his time exploring the hills and streams of the coast ranges. Since before he could walk he loved fish, and growing up that passion extended to all other forms of life. Jack received his bachelor's in biology from Dartmouth College in 2024, with a concentration in evolution and ecology. While there he helped found the Flora and Fauna club, leading trips to find interesting species and act on local conservation issues. He has done research on salmonids in Sonoma, birds across the northeast, and fungi in Hubbard brook experimental forest.

Originally from the East Coast, Traci’s love of the water began with her summers spent on the beach and in the ocean. She moved to California from Washington, DC, to help stop the proposed Auburn dam. Traci led a campaign to designate Wild and Scenic rivers and Wilderness in California. She has worked on state legislation and water issues with the Planning and Conservation League.

Emily grew up wandering the trails and stairways of Mt. Tamalpais and has since practiced her particular brand of slow, aimless hiking throughout the U.S. and beyond. She loves plants and is currently trying to grow a lush English garden using only the meanest, scrappiest plants. When she’s not at work you can find her chatting with her sisters, swimming in the river, or embarrassing her dog with made up songs.
