Volunteering
At the heart of SYRCL is the family of volunteers who give countless hours to the river and organization. Volunteering at SYRCL is a great opportunity to give back and assist SYRCL staff, as well as meet new people, acquire new skills, and enjoy a variety of perks (event tickets, etc). Below is a list of volunteering opportunities.
Please complete the volunteer application. Miriam will reply to you within a week to figure out the best placement for YOUR skills and interest in helping SYRCL.

In the Office
Assist SYRCL staff with mailings, data entry, garden upkeep, research, and special projects. We love to have volunteers every day!
River Monitoring
Do you love the Yuba and would like to be outdoors on a monthly basis to relay water quality information to SYRCL? We will give you all the tools to collect accredited scientific data. REQUIRED TRAINING TO PARTICIPATE!! Since 2000, SYRCL has been sending out 80-100 volunteers monthly to conduct water quality testing to over 40 sites throughout the Yuba Watershed. Please contact our Americorps Member for 2010, Brooke Berger for more information or to become a river monitor. Trainings will occur in March, however, you might be able to join the team after that date brooke@syrcl.org or (530) 265-5961 ext. 211
At Events
SYRCL promotes its mission by a collective of community awareness and education events, watershed stewardship opportunities, and membership fundraising events which all help to protect the Yuba River and the Greater Yuba River watershed! We’d love for you to get involved by attending or volunteering. Go to the calendar of events in the website to get updated information about each event.
January
The Wild & Scenic® Environmental Film Festival is the largest festival of its kind in the US. Go to wildandscenicfilmfestival.org for more information.
March
Orientation and trainings for the River Monitoring Program. State of the Yuba – Presentation of the 10 years of River Monitoring data and informational evening. Snowshoeing with Miriam Limov, RiverPeople Coordinator – snowshoeing on Donner Summit learning about the summit issues related to the South Yuba River.
April
South Yuba River Hike with Hank Meals – learn about the history of the Yuba River watershed from photographer, historian and writer, Hank Meals.
June
SYRCL’s Annual Auction & River Celebration is an evening of fun with bidding on over 500 items, services, and trips along with fabulous food, fine wine and entertainment.
Trail building – Backpacking into Grouse Ridge, Tahoe National forest and enjoy a weekend of trail building in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service.
September
In the last 11 years, over 100,000 pounds of trash and recyclables has been removed from the Yuba, Bear, Deer Creek and Wolf Creek watersheds as part of SYRCL’s Greater Yuba CleanUp and Restoration Day.
October
Salmon Tour Rafting Trips are a 6-mile river rafting experience to learn about the Salmonid life history and to view the last wild Chinook salmon population of the Yuba River. Weekend trips for the general public and weekday trips offered for school groups. Current member discounts for SYRCL and ETC members.
