Announcing SYRCL’s Youth for the Yuba Contest and Event

Canyon Kayakers1The Yuba has a long-standing tradition of inspiring creativity in its visitors.  Our community is decorated with art, photography, and writing dedicated to our beautiful river and watershed.  In this upcoming event, SYRCL wants to celebrate the creativity the Yuba inspires in our youth!  This is why we created the Youth for the Yuba Contest and Event based on the theme, #IlovetheYuba.

What is it: The SYRCL Youth for the Yuba Event and contest, #IlovetheYuba, is intended to celebrate the unique skills of the youth in our community while showcasing their commitment to the Yuba and its preservation.  Youth are invited to participate in a number of contests to exhibit how they are inspired by the Yuba.

The Event: The Youth for the Yuba event is for all kids, whether they participate in the contest or not.  It will include a Youth Envirofair, where organizations in our community will share their dynamic opportunities for kids.  Local students will also showcase their environmental work in the community.  Bring friends and family to this fabulous event!

The Contest: Submissions are due Friday, April 15th.  Local judges will assess students’ imagination, skill, and inspiration.  Top entries will be displayed at the State of the Yuba on Thursday, April 21st and winners will be announced at the Youth for the Yuba Event at the SYRCL office on Saturday, May 7th.

The Awards:  There will be a variety of awards available for a range of age levels for students who exhibit their dynamic skills – including art, writing, music, and volunteerism.  SYRCL encourages all Yuba lovers to participate in the contest and to attend this event.

Participant Age Groups: Submissions will be judged by age groups based on K-4, 5-8, and 9-12
