Melinda Booth Promoted to Executive Director

After six years as Festival Director for the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, Melinda Booth has been promoted to Executive Director of  SYRCL. As you probably know, Wild & Scenic is a program of SYRCL. The event was founded to raise funds for SYRCL’s year-round work protecting and restoring the Yuba River and to use the powerful medium of film to inspire environmental activism. Learn more

Oroville Dam gained worldwide attention in February 2017 when crumbling spillways at the nation’s tallest dam triggered one of the largest evacuations in California history. The near catastrophe remains a socioeconomic blow to downstream communities. It will require substantial ecological remediation, as more than 1.7 million cubic yards of sediment washed into the Feather River below Oroville Dam—enough to cover a football field 80 stories high. Have you heard about the proposal to repair or replace the Edwards Crossing Bridge?  Our beloved bridge has been deemed structurally deficient and Nevada County is looking at three options: a structural retrofit of the existing bridge, tearing it down and building a replacement, and retaining the existing bridge for pedestrian access and building a new bridge for vehicles. After six years at the helm of SYRCL, Caleb Dardick is stepping down as Executive Director. He’s chosen a mighty fine day to do it. Caleb’s last day lands in conjunction with the Yuba River Cleanup – Saturday, September 16th. This will be Caleb’s 7th Cleanup and SYRCL’s 20th.
