The Wild & Scenic Film Festival has officially opened! We invite you to join us for our live virtual events, check out the films created by some of our community members, and explore our watershed during the rainy season.

For the past eighteen years, SYRCL has been proud to offer a four-year college scholarship to a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated a commitment to the environment. Since 2002, eighteen $4,000 scholarships have been awarded. Details.

We are still recruiting 10th-12th graders and graduating seniors interested in this FREE five-day summer science expedition. This year students will install aspen enclosures at Loney Meadow, conduct biological studies, collect data, take beautiful hikes, and learn about the importance of healthy meadows and meadow fringe aspen ecosystems. Details

On Earth Day last year, SYRCL called on our community to get outside and explore nature within their own backyards for a BioBlitz. We had such an overwhelming response that we brought it back again this year for the weekend following Earth Day. Details

Now that warmer weather is upon us, outdoor enthusiasts have to grapple with tick season. Ticks are well known for spreading a number of zoonotic diseases (or diseases that can be transmitted from humans to animals), namely Lyme Disease. However, California is armed with an unlikely defense against the spread of Lyme Disease: western fence lizards. Details

BioBlitzes are powerful citizen science tools that can add a wealth of knowledge to what we already know about our ecosystems. By using a large group of people to record observations, more data can be collected at once than would be during a traditional biological survey. Scientists can then use this data to learn more about the species in the area surveyed, such as the abundance of a certain animal, or how many invasive species are present. Details

SYRCL’s annual scholarship fundraiser, Quiz Night, looked a little different different this year but we were still able to reunite virtually to tackle brain-scratching trivia thanks to the all-too-familiar Zoom. With your help, we raised funds for the Youth Environmentalist of the Year scholarship. Details

We have been hard at work developing brain-scratching trivia to stump even the best trivia buffs and would love to reunite with you and the rest of our SYRCL community for this evening of ‘virtual’ fun. We hope to see you there! Details
