25th Annual Yuba River Cleanup

The Yuba River Cleanup is back!  This year, we are using lessons learned in 2021 to build a stronger more resilient cleanup that will impact even more of the Yuba River watershed.

Though SYRCL’s River Ambassadors will be hard at work this summer to remind visitors to pack it out and recycle at Highway 49, Bridgeport, and Purdon, there is much more of our watershed that needs attention and help!

SYRCL is hosting the 25th Annual Yuba River Cleanup from September 10 through the 17, 2022.  From Saturday to Saturday, volunteers will be helping to remove trash from trails and beaches by choosing from a Self-Guided Cleanup or joining us on Sept 17th for our official community-wide Yuba River Cleanup from 9-1pm. To celebrate everyone’s fantastic work, we invite all 2022 Cleanup volunteers to congregate at Bridgeport Crossing (near the visitor center) for a lunch and party from 1pm to 3pm.

River Cleanup volunteers make a huge difference in the health of our watershed. Over the past 20 years, the Yuba River Cleanup has removed more than 120 tons of garbage and recycling from the river. This cleanup effort augments our education and outreach efforts that promote river safety and etiquette to river-goers.

The Yuba River Cleanup is part of a larger cleanup effort, California Coastal Cleanup Day, which started in 1985 and is the largest volunteer event in the state.

The Cleanup Event is not possible without the support of SYRCL’s dedicated and passionate volunteers.

This site is fairly flat and easily accessible, and would be a good option for families with small children.

This site may require hiking through rocky and uneven terrain. Not recommended for small children.

Questions?  SYRCL is here to help.

If you are having trouble viewing information, registering, have questions about sites or want to tell us about a watershed location needing cleaning, please contact Maddie Davis, Community Engagement Manager, at maddie@yubariver.org or 530-265-5961 ext. 201.

Thanks to our entire community of river volunteers who helped make last year’s 2021 Yuba River Cleanup a success. Even during COVID quarantine, we removed more than 12,500 lbs of trash and recycling from the Yuba and Bear watersheds with the help of over 400 dedicated volunteers. We hope 2022 will be another successful year.
