It’s less than a week before the start of SYRCL’s 23rd Annual Yuba River Cleanup and our volunteer registration is over half-way full, but we are still recruiting 300+ volunteers to help keep our watershed clean. We are calling on our community to help “Protect Your Happy Place” by signing up for the Yuba River Cleanup September 16-27, 2020. This year, all across the nation public lands have been inundated by visitors leaving behind our mark of litter and trash on public beaches and trails.
This summer our River Ambassador Summer Program was unable to be a community presence at the river, due to safety for our volunteers during COVID. River Ambassadors are usually at river crossings each weekend of the summer to greet guest and remind them how to ‘pick up after your pet, pack in what you pack out and recycle, no glass, no fires and park responsibly’. Without our River Ambassadors in 2020 we saw an increase in new visitors, illegal dumping, irresponsible parking, and river-goers both local and out-of-town leaving behind waste and litter at swimming holes. We have so much work to do educating future visitors to help us keep the Yuba beautiful the way we love it.
I want to help with a small group.. I LIVE IN NSJ, AND WANT TO HELP WHERE I can pick up but not carry trash. I broke back &,,, am. Limited to weight over 5 lbs. But have river monitored 7years at Purdon. Love to be with funfolks and clean up Yuba!
