Despite the uncertainty we’re facing today, please know we’re steadfast in our commitment to you – our Yuba Community — and SYRCL’s work to stay vigilant to protect the health of our watershed.
That’s why we’re taking part in #GivingTuesdayNow – a global day of giving and unity that’s dedicated to responding to the COVID-19 crisis.
During this special day, SYRCL is asking for donations for our River Education programs. One of the many impacts SYRCL’s seen so far from COVID-19 has been to the funding sources and fundraising events that support youth education, outreach and field work.
The earliest was canceling SYRCL’s famous Quiz Night event, which would have raised college scholarship dollars for a local high school senior. We’re still awarding the scholarship, that’s why we’re asking for your support today.
Then we lost significant matching funds for our Summer Youth and Outdoor Leadership Opportunity (YOLO) trips for local 10th-12th graders — about $22,000 — due to COVID-19. Any donation toward replacing this match will help our efforts to continue this critical student field science program in August.
Moreover since mid-March, our education team has poured time and resources into moving as much programming as possible online, such as:
- Reformatting our spring-scheduled Great Water Mystery Assemblies to web videos which requires creating new scripts and recording weekly episodes.
- Moving our Student Environmental Art Show to a virtual gallery and webinar format.
- Creating an Environmental Education At-Home Resource page for all our partner schools to help with their transition to online education this spring.
Every new generation must learn how clean water and a vibrant watershed are cornerstones of a healthy community. Will you join the #GivingTuesdayNow effort today to make a difference for our local students — our next generation of Yuba Stewards?
For our youth and #GivingTuesdayNow,
