Growing Green for the Yuba 2020 Update: What Happens Now?

In May 2019, Nevada County took the first positive step towards securing the legal future of cannabis in the Yuba River watershed by legalizing commercial cannabis cultivation. Unfortunately, as of January 2020, only an estimated one percent of all grows in Nevada County are currently legal.

While the County and our community work through this process, SYRCL remains committed to sharing information that protects the river from potential negative impacts from both legal and illegal cannabis cultivation through Growing Green for the Yuba.

SYRCL’s vision for Growing Green is that people will see that well-regulated agriculture – which is what cannabis cultivation could be – should not harm water quality, fish or wildlife. We’re addressing the sustainable cultivation issue through collaborative leadership, science, stewardship and education. As a community we can educate each other to ensure cannabis is grown in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way.

Building Healthy Soil for a Fruitful Harvest

Cannabis Appellations Regulations Released – Make Your Voice Heard!

Breaking News! The California Department of Food and Agriculture released the highly-anticipated regulations for cannabis appellations. Cannabis appellations are “a protected designation that identifies the geographical origin of a product and how that product was produced”, e.g., France’s “Champagne” designation.

The Appellations regulations help:

“(1) Establish standards by which a licensed cannabis cultivator may designate a county of origin for cannabis, and;
(2) Establish a process by which licensed cannabis cultivators may establish appellations of origin including standards, practices, and cultivars applicable to cannabis produced in a certain geographical area in California.”

Overall an exciting economic and potentially environmentally protective development for our community and the Yuba River watershed!
