Hiking in the New Year: Yuba Goldfields Trail

Looking for an excuse to get outside and enjoy this lovely January weather? A short venture down the hill to the Yuba Goldfields Trail offers an insightful look into the history of the lower Yuba. Find out how the Yuba Goldfields formed, how Native Americans utilized the land, and how local groups are working to restore salmon populations in the lower Yuba. In the spring, after a wet winter, this area is often covered with poppies and lupines!

The Yuba Goldfields Trail (3 mile round trip) winds through gravel piles and dredger ponds left from the Gold Rush era before opening up to the Yuba River. The trail can be accessed via Hammonton Road and Hammon Bar (when the river levels are low). Click here for trailhead location information from Google.
