The South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) is proud to host the 2^nd Annual “Growing Green for the Yuba” this spring, an all-day workshop for watershed stakeholders interested in learning more about best practices in cannabis cultivation that protect the environment.

While the political and legal future for cannabis cultivation in the Yuba River watershed appears uncertain, SYRCL remains committed to sharing educational information that protects the river from potential negative impacts. For example, the overuse of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides pollutes the water and poisons wildlife. Inappropriate water diversions, deforested and poorly graded land leads to dry creek beds, toxic algae blooms and damaged habitat for native fish and wildlife.

“With this event, we hope to draw attention to the cumulative impact of small grows across our watershed and what can be done to protect the river,” said Rachel Hutchinson, SYRCL’s River Science Director.

At the workshop, the public will learn from local and regional experts about practices for cultivation that will safeguard the Yuba watershed. The presenters will address a variety of topics including water management systems, soil health, nutrient use, and pest management. There will also be a panel discussion focused on local and statewide regulations.
