2014-clean-up-1Join the SYRCL community Saturday, September 19 for the 18th annual Yuba River Cleanup.  So far, more than 150 people have registered to volunteer (Thank you!)– but it usually takes about 600-700 of us to clean the river in just one day so please register today!

If you have participated in the Cleanup before than you know that this is a phenomenal opportunity to unite people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests for the common goal of keeping our beloved river clean, safe and healthy.   Please spread the word!   Share the Cleanup with your friends, school, club and workplace colleagues.

This year when you register for your favorite river cleanup site, please consider joining our optional Yuba River Cleanup fundraiser, too.  If everyone asked their friends and family to sponsor their day cleaning up the river with a $5 or $10 donation, SYRCL would have the financial resources to continue to support not only the annual Cleanup but our growing River Ambassador program too. And if you help us raise a hundred bucks or more, you will earn a gorgeous 2015 Yuba River Cleanup volunteer t-shirt!

River Ambassadors

Last month, Heidi Hall wrote that she, “came for the Yuba River beauty and stayed for the community.”  Many can relate to this sentiment.  Each year, visitation to the South Yuba River increases and the river now attracts more than 700,000 visitors from around the world.  Increased popularity coupled with a decrease in State Park resources has resulted in less capacity to address the impact of so many visitors on the river.  This translates to more trash, more dog waste, more glass and the potential for greater fire danger, which is why SYRCL has stepped up to organize an effort to confront these difficult issues directly.

7.5.15_Bridgeport_05Since 2012, volunteer River Ambassadors have given hundreds of hours over the summer to educate river visitors about fire-safety and stewardship at the river through one-on-one conversations.  We hope you will help us preserve the Yuba’s beauty and join our community to not only cleanup the river, but also help us build capacity to keep the Cleanup and River Ambassador program viable.  Please consider supporting these programs, by joining our online fundraiser, or by making a donation.  The donations you raise today will support the Cleanup, the River Ambassadors and SYRCL’s year-round work to protect the Yuba.  Not a bad investment, right?

Starting your fundraiser is fun and easy! All you do is ask your friends and family to sponsor your day cleaning up the river.  You can personalize your page and let your friends know why you participate in the Cleanup. Add photos, share your love for the Yuba and invite your friends and family to sponsor your effort to keep the river clean. Many small donations really do add up!

We look forward to working alongside you on September 19th, and then celebrating YOU at the volunteer appreciation BBQ.  The Cleanup will be from 9am-1pm and later the BBQ picnic will be from 1pm-4pm with a free lunch, no host beer garden, live music and stone skipping contest at the South Yuba River State Park at Bridgeport Crossing.

Thank you to our generous 2015 Cleanup and River Ambassador sponsors.
