AmeriCorps Goodbye For Now, But Not Forever

Since 2007, SYRCL has valued its participation in the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership (SNAP). The SNAP program has enabled SYRCL to hire 2-3 highly qualified and hardworking staff members. This year we said “goodbye” to three amazing AmeriCorps members, Marianne Pott, Adele Rife and Jenn Tamo!

Marianne Pott, SYRCLs 2013-2014 River Monitoring Coordinator, will be staying on to help with the River Monitoring Program for a few months before heading on to bigger and better things. Marianne has fearlessly led over 75 volunteers on a monthly basis for the last two years to collect water quality data across the Yuba watershed. Her love for the Yuba shines through in everything that she does- SYRCL will miss her adventurous spirit and her kind heart.

Adele Rife, SYRCLs 2013-2014 Restoration Coordinator, has moved to Portland for a new adventure! She is pursuing her education to finish prerequisites for graduate school and looking for conservation related work. We hope to bring her back to the Yuba one day! She worked tirelessly to restore some key habitats across the Yuba and engaged volunteers to do the same. As SYRCL’s first Restoration Coordinator- Adele helped us take the program to places we never imagined!

We are thrilled that Jenn Tamo, SYRCLs 2014 Stewardship Coordinator, will be staying on as our River People Manager! Jenn will now be managing our Volunteer Program, our Outreach activities and many of SYRCL’s events. Jenn is committed to protecting and conserving the Yuba River and has already brought SYRCL into a whole new light. All of the staff here are excited to see what the future brings for River People!

In 2015, SYRCL will be getting three new AmeriCorps members. Karl Ronning, joining us from Missouri, will be our 2015 River Monitoring Coordinato, Svetlana Vasilchenko, joining us from Idaho, will be our Restoration Coordinator, and Suzanne Calkins, joining us from Bishop, CA, will be our Stewardship Coordinator. We are looking forward to introducing our 2015 team to the Yuba River watershed and all of the dedicated volunteers and members who make SYRCLs work possible.
