Volunteers and SYRCL staff on the 2012 Aspen Regeneration Day

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers and participants who joined us on our recent Aspen Regeneration Day and Humbug Tour!

Twelve dedicated volunteers and SYRCL staff participated in the Aspen Regeneration Day  August 3rd removing conifers, providing room and sunlight for the aspen trees  on two acres of meadow  at Rucker Lake in the Grouse Ridge area. Special thanks to Kathy Van Zuuk with Tahoe National Forest for sharing her knowledge about the importance of aspen regeneration in the Sierra Nevada region. Visit our restoration webpage to learn more about SYRCL’s restoration program.

Eight community members learned about Malakoff Diggins history, mining legacy, and ways to help protect this park as it faces threat of closer on August 11 at the Humbug Excursion. Thank you to Kyle Leach, Sierra Streams Institute, and Debbie Pfaner, California State Parks, for adding such valuable knowledge to our tour.
