Programs

Programs are the center of SYRCL’s work in the Yuba Watershed. RiverPeople is our effort to bring the community to the Yuba River as volunteers in preserving it’s natural resource. The goal of the River Science program is to provide scientific information where it is most vitally needed to support the protection and restoration of the Yuba River watershed. The program involves monitoring, research, data analysis, watershed assessment, education, advocacy, and lots and lots of collaboration. We invite teachers and students into our work with the Yuba River via our RiverTeachers program. This program is anchored in two multi-media presentations geared to K-6th grade students. The premise of the Yuba Strategy program approach is that given adequate input of our collective energy we can learn enough about the function of natural systems so as to more intelligently and thoughtfully manage our natural resources in such a way that maximizes the efficiency of our use of them;  working with natural ebbs and flows as opposed to against them. Our popular and annual Wild & Scenic(r) Film Festival, held in Nevada City each January, has spawned a year-round nation-wide tour of the films presented locally in our home town.
