The Nevada Irrigation District plans to ask Congressman Doug LaMalfa to introduce a bill that would transfer land publicly held by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) within the Centennial project area to NID ownership.
This unnecessary land grab is an end-run around the longstanding agreements, painfully negotiated over the past seven years, to protect fish and wildlife and in-stream flows.
BLM lands are inundated all the time, yet BLM ownership preserves federal fish and wildlife protections. NID doesn’t need to own parcels within the Centennial Dam project to move forward. Why are they asking for it?
Tell LaMalfa – No BLM land transfer to NID. We don’t need bad legislation.
