The Hallwood Side Channel and Floodplain Restoration Project, funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), will restore critical habitat for Chinook salmon and steelhead trout in the lower Yuba River. In an area that now consists mostly of steep cobble embankments, the project has the potential to enhance or create up to 170 acres of seasonally-inundated riparian floodplain habitats, more than 3 miles of perennial side channels and alcoves, and more than 4 miles of seasonal side channels.

Project partners include USFWS, cbec eco-engineering, Cramer Fish Sciences, South Yuba River Citizens League, Teichert Materials, and Western Aggregates.

• Introduce goals/objectives of the Project and the USFWS Anadromous Fish Restoration Program.
• Discuss the need for salmon and steelhead rearing habitat and opportunities posed by the Yuba Goldfields.
• Discuss support for the Project by landowners and resource agencies.
• Discuss some alternatives considered and design constraints identified.
• Gather additional input and perspective.
• Discuss potential ways for getting more involved.
