QuizNightCollageSYRCL’s Quiz Night, also known as the Brains of Nevada County event, is looking for a couple dozen daring and talented teams to participate in this year’s annual trivia tradition. Mark your calendar for 6:30pm, Saturday, March 12. This event will be held in Grass Valley at the Peace Lutheran Church, 828 West Main Street.

Do you know:

  • Which is the only sport to have been played on the moon?
  • Which California County has the smallest population?

Do you enjoy:

  • Indulging in libations while solving riddles with your closest friends?
  • Dressing up in hilarious themed costumes while egging on your competition?

If you can answer “yes” to any of these questions, rally a team to compete in the best and most fun fundraiser in Nevada County! Space is limited, so secure your table today.

Delve into the depths of your psyche and fish for those frivolous facts planted by silly sitcoms and past pop-culture. Enjoy an evening of hilarity and friendly competition. Create a team of your favorite friends, colleagues, and neighbors. Dozens of local businesses and organizations have participated in the past to vie for victory. We’ve enjoyed the company of teams from Nevada City Winery, AJA Video, the BriarPatch Coop, The Union, KVMR, Yubanet and many more.

March 12, nearly two dozen teams will compete for the coveted honor of being named Quiz Night Champs, but only one team will succeed in this quest. The winning team will receive bragging rights and glory, good for 365 days, but their name will go down in history, etched into the prestigious Quiz Night trophy forever. We encourage costumes and enthusiasm. Prizes will be distributed to the Quiz Night Champs, Most Spirited, and Best Losers.

Teams are made up of eight participants and the buy-in is $50 per person, $400 per table. To secure your table or inquire about forming a team, please contact Quizmistress, Janet Cohen at 530-265-5770 or janet@commaction.com, or Jenn Tamo at 530-265-5961 ext. 201 or jenn@syrcl.org.

In the meantime, start studying and recruiting your team NOW!

For the past 15 years, SYRCL has held this trivia contest to raise money for a scholarship fund named in honor of Laura Wilcox, the Nevada County teenager killed in the January 10, 2001 shooting at the Nevada County Behavioral Health facility. This scholarship is awarded annually to high school seniors who live in the Yuba or Bear watersheds and have a commitment to the environment. Recipients will receive $1,000 per year for four years to apply toward tuition at an accredited college or university.

The scholarship application is due each year in mid-January and can be found online at the Nevada Joint Union High School District’s scholarship webpage under the District Scholarships Listing 2015-2016 as S.Y.R.C.L. LAURA WILCOX MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. Students must meet the minimum 3.5 GPA to apply.
