“What? No SYRCL Auction in June this Year!?!”

March 17, 2011

Yes, after 22 years of setting the standard for successful auctions, we decided to offer YOU, the SYRCL supporter, an entirely repackaged event that promises to be a fantastically fun celebration!  That’s right, a new event, a new month and a new format, yet you can be assured that your contributions will continue to go directly to SYRCL’s programs in watershed restoration, wild salmon recovery, river monitoring, and expanding our reach through the Wild & Scenic Film Festival!!!

Well, what is this “new” event? We’re calling it,Wild for the Yuba: Celebrating Regional  Grapes, Hops and Bites” featuring wine and beer tastings from 13 wineries from Placer and Nevada Counties and 12 breweries from throughout California on Saturday night, April 2. Coupled with delicious food from Conscious Catering, energetic dancing and drumming from the Earth Rhythm African Dance Troupe this is an event you won’t want to miss!  Curated by two local experts in viticulture and brew making, “Grapes & Hops” is the first event of it’s kind in Nevada County, showcasing unique selections from wineries AND breweries! Click here for all the details and to purchase your tickets today before it sells out.

Does that mean that there is no silent and live auction?

Well, there will only be a Live Auction that night, which will be dispersed throughout the evening, allowing you more time to visit with all your friends and taste the remarkable regional wines and beers from throughout California.  And, we’ve selected the best of our traditional auction items to include in the Live Auction; From a plane flight over the Sierra, romantic cabin for two, kayak lessons on the South Fork of the American River, sailing on San Francisco Bay, a home on the South Yuba River (see photo below) and so much more.

What do you mean, NO SILENT AUCTION?

Instead of the silent auction at this event, SYRCL will be having an on-line auction in November, just in time for your holiday shopping!  Contact miriam@syrcl.org if you have a service or product that you’d like to donate, and meanwhile mark your calendars for getting good deals from the business that support SYRCL in our work on behalf of the river you love!

So, what you are saying that there is NO auction in JUNE? That’s right: This event IS “the SYRCL Auction.”  And we’ve moved the date so as not to interfere with all the busy activities going on in June – Mark the date now – April 2 from 6-9 pm

If you’ve changed the event, did you also change the location?

YES…the event is now located at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Hall at 255 South Auburn Street, Grass Valley!  The open floor plan at the GV Vets Hall will better accommodate this event. Our goal is to bring together over 400 Yuba River lovers to “celebrate” friendships, enjoy fine wines and beers, taste magnificent local and organic fare, and bid HIGH and OFTEN on exceptional live auction packages in support of SYRCL!!!

But what if I don’t drink – how can I still support SYRCL in their largest fundraiser?

We are having a designated driver ticket for half the price.  This $20 ticket still includes the tasting glass, all the tasty food, bidding on the live auction items and sipping all the non-alcoholic drinks you want so you can still join your friends in the festivities.  And for those wanting to be safe, we have the taxi service phone number for you at check-in if you need a ride home after the event.

Can I just buy a ticket at the door like I have done for 22 years?

You might not be able to, since we might sell out! We believe that this event is so unique that we might sell out at 450 people before the night of the event. Therefore, to make sure you get a spot at this NOT TO BE MISSED event of the year, purchase your tickets TODAY!  Tickets are $40 for SYRCL members and $45 for the general public.  And your ticket includes an etched SYRCL wine glass,  tastings from two dozen wineries and breweries, the finest fare, dessert, entertainment by Earth Rhythms African Dance Troupe and a fun live auction.  To purchase tickets securely on-line right now click here

I live out of town, is there anything else to do that weekend?

It will be peak wildflower season down at the Bridgeport crossing in the South Yuba River State Park where you can walk on a gentle trail with the most beautiful flower displays in the county and experience the wild waters of the South Yuba River in the Wild & Scenic corridor. SYRCL staff or board members will be on-hand at the event, to provide you with information about our programs and projects and have maps for more suggestions of places to visit along the Yuba River.

Since we are leaping into an entirely new format, location, event and date, please help us spread the word and fill the hall with Yuba River loving friends.  Circulate this announcement to your friends…better yet, invite them to join you (and me) on April 2nd at the Grass Valley Veteran’s Hall!

We don’t want your friends to ask you, “Oooooh, THAT was the annual SYRCL fundraiser that I missed?!?” Help us spread the word:

We are still in need of just a few more volunteers for the day and night of the event (food servers, food preparers and check-in) – If you are interested, please contact Miriam Limov at Miriam@syrcl.org

Help out the Yuba River and buy your tickets online TODAY! or stop by the SYRCL office for all ticket types, or go to BriarPatch Co-Op Market for non-members and designated drivers tickets only.
